Our Founder

The founder – no office jockey: - As founder of Australian Certified Humane, Alisdair Robertson has covered some ground, and the concept of ACH has developed over several decades, drawing on a range of experiences dating right back to when he was a boy.

Some of Alisdair’s earliest memories involved his father trapping wild goats at Arkaroola (now a private-wildlife reserve) in remote South Australia in the late 1960s. On his Mother’s side his family’s association with farming animals commercially dates back to 1906 with his Great Grandfather establishing a dairy in the Corop district of North Western Victoria, where there are still cousin’s involved in dairying to this day.

Alisdair’s father managed sheep and cattle properties across all the mainland states and territories in Australia except WA and the ACT. After finishing school, Alisdair did his apprenticeship as a butcher, in the process spending years operating a slaughterhouse and piggery.

Alisdair owned and operated regional butcher shops before owning shops in inner-city Brisbane, a fine-dining restaurant in the Brisbane CBD, then went on to manage a major cattle property on Cape York Peninsula (Strathburn Station).

Alisdair has been directly involved in many areas of animal raising, handling, transportation, meat processing, wholesaling and retailing. As a retailer, he discovered the challenges involved in securing a consistent supply of good product from wholesalers, products that have the sort of brand integrity that - as a human and as a businessperson - you would be comfortable standing behind. As a proud father to two, he has also discovered the imperative of being able to source a product that is as unadulterated and wholesome as that which he knew as a boy.

From all of this, and half a century of passion for grass fed meat, the Australian Certified Humane story was borne.
